Albany Community Police Advisory Committee
In the fall of 2009 the Albany Police Department administrative staff recognized the need for a philosophical change in the department fulfilling its mission to serve the citizens of Albany. With the combined perceptions of an unsafe city, and disconnect between citizens and the police, it was determined that the APD and City alike would be better served by instituting a community based policing philosophy. The Committee was charged with reviewing and addressing items that would potentially reinvigorate the relationship between the residents of our community and the APD.

Albany Housing Authority
Albany Housing Authority Board oversees the AHA which provides housing accommodations for persons of low income.

Albany Parking Authority
The purpose of the Albany Parking Authority is to construct, operate and maintain public parking facilities and on-street meters in the City of Albany. The Parking Authority aims to strengthen economic development in the City of Albany by resolving parking and traffic problems, improving parking convenience, promoting traffic and pedestrian safety and planning for transportation alternatives.

The Albany Port District Commission has power and authority over the survey, development, and management of facilities and operations at the Port of Albany.

Albany Water Board
The Albany Water Board ascertains what sources are most available, desirable and best for the supply of pure and wholesome water for the City of Albany.

Assessment Review
The Board of Assessment Review meets to process requests for review of assessed values and is charged with guaranteeing property owner's rights to a fair and impartial decision regarding property assessments. The Common Council appoints board members for five-year terms.

Board of Zoning Appeals
The Board of Zoning Appeals is empowered to hear and decide appeals, and interpret provisions for applicants exhibiting a challenge to City officials issuing orders, decisions or requirements under the City's Unified Sustainable Development Ordinance.

Commission on Human Rights
The Commission on Human Rights was created to foster an atmosphere of respect and celebration of our diversity. In accordance with the objectives of the Omnibus Human Rights Law, the Commission on Human Rights seeks to assure that the residents of our City are safeguarded against all forms of discrimination in violation of state and local law.

Community Police Review Board
The Community Police Review Board (CPRB) is an independent body that handles complaints of misconduct by officers of the Albany Police Department. Its goals are to improve communication between the City of Albany Police Department and the community, to increase police accountability and credibility with the public, and to create a complaint review process that is free from bias and informed of actual police practices.

Board of Contract and Supply
The Board of Contract and Supply administers the formal bidding and processing of contracts for all purchases in excess of $20,000 and all public works in excess of $35,000.

Electrical Examining Board
The purpose of the Electrical Examining Board is to investigate and examine the knowledge and technical ability of each City of Albany Electrician license applicant and applicants for renewal of a license, and also authorize the issuance of licenses by the Administrator as provided by ordinance. The Board also investigates and examines all charges preferred against any holder of a license and their eligibility to continue to hold a license.

Board of Estimate & Apportionment
The purpose of the Board of Estimate and Apportionment is to fix salaries and compensation, and determine the number and title of positions within the City of Albany government.

Examining Board of Plumbers
The purpose of the Examining Board of Plumbers is to investigate and examine the qualifications and fitness of each applicant for a license to engage in the trade, business or calling of plumbing for the City of Albany. The Board formulates, in conjunction with the local Board of Health, a code of rules regulating the work of plumbing and drainage in the City of Albany. The Board also issues apprentice training and journeyman identification cards.

Historic Resources Commission
The Historic Resources Commission is charged to conserve and protect historic sites, structures and other landmarks that have special value or interest to the City.

Industrial & Commercial Incentive
The purpose of the Industrial and Commercial Incentive Board is to receive and review applications for certificates of eligibility for industrial and commercial structures and establishments within the City of Albany, to make findings and determinations on the qualifications of applicants for certificates of eligibility, to issue certificates of eligibility and amendments, to make recommendations on the termination of a tax exemption, and to make and promulgate rules and regulations to carry out the purposes of the Board.

Living Wage Compliance Committee
The City of Albany Living Wage Committee members were appointed by Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan, with the advice and consent of the Common Council to provide oversight and review of the City's Living Wage Ordinance.

The Municipal Civil Service Commission is responsible for the administration of the Civil Service Law for municipal employees, as well as the protection of their rights.

PEG Access Oversight Board
The Mayor and Common Council find and declare that it is in the public interest of the citizens of the City of Albany to establish a board to oversee implementation of PEG Access, the cable television public access facility/studio in the City of Albany and to promote public awareness of the public access in the City.

Planning Board
The Planning Board reviews site plans that are submitted by Applicants who are interested in developing or altering land within the City of Albany for residential, commercial or other uses pursuant to §27 of New York State General City Law and the City's Unified Sustainable Development Ordinance.

Sustainability Advisory Committee
The Sustainability Advisory Committee was established by Albany's Common Council to help foster more sustainable practices and unified action on climate change within the City.
