The Community Police Review Board (CPRB) announces that the Common Council and Mayor are accepting new member applications. They are seeking individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the Albany community.

Overview
The Albany Community Police Review Board (CPRB) is an independent police oversight agency. The CPRB reviews and investigates complaints of alleged misconduct committed by officers of the Albany Police Department (APD).
The CPRB aims to improve communication between the Albany Police Department and community members. The CPRB also works to increase police accountability and credibility with the communities that APD serves. The CPRB accomplishes these goals through independent and impartial investigations, policy recommendations, and community outreach.
The CPRB’s responsibilities include:
- Receiving and reviewing community complaints of alleged police misconduct;
- Conducting independent investigations into alleged police misconduct;
- Reviewing investigations conducted by APD’s Office of Professional Services (OPS);
- Reviewing APD and OPS policies;
- Collaborating with APD and OPS to develop a police disciplinary matrix and
- Providing policy recommendations to the Mayor, Common Council, and Police Chief.
The CPRB is a member of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE). For more information about police oversight around the U.S., visit NACOLE.
Membership
The CPRB consists of nine members who must be City of Albany residents. The Common Council appoints five members and the Mayor appoints four. All members of the Board serve three-year terms.

Information
File a Complaint
The CPRB is only able to review complaints against employees of the Albany Police Department (APD). Criminal complaints against non-APD personnel must be filed with the Albany Police Department. Complaints against members of police departments other than the APD must be filed with the Internal Affairs department of the local police department.

Complaint forms can be emailed to the CPRB at cprb@albanyny.gov, mailed to the CPRB at 175 Central Ave., Room 516, Albany, NY 12206, or can be delivered in person. Please provide as much information as possible to include a current phone number, email, and mailing address.
Withdraw a Complaint
If you have filed a complaint against an APD employee and wish to withdraw your complaint the CPRB and/or APD must be notified in writing as required by § 42-344(F)(6) of City of Albany Law. You can download, complete and submit the below forms.
