Your Water Service Line Status: Confirmed Lead

We are writing to inform you of a confirmed Lead Service Line.

This notice is to inform you that the water line serving this residence is confirmed lead. This is an annual notice required by the EPA and Department of Health.

Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects in all age groups. Infants and children can have decreases in IQ and attention span. Lead exposure can lead to new learning and behavior problems or exacerbate existing learning and behavior problems. The children of women who are exposed to lead before or during pregnancy can have increased risk of these adverse health effects. Adults can have increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney or nervous system problems.

Reduce exposure to lead by flushing the faucet with cold water before use, use cold water from the faucet, particularly for preparing baby formula, and consider a filter.

More information about AWD’s replacement program and grant opportunity can be found at albanyny.gov/lead. AWD is actively replacing lead lines throughout the City as quickly as possible. The water system is required to replace its portion of a lead service line when the property owner notifies them they are replacing their portion of the lead service line (EPA 141.85). The City of Albany does not own any portion of the service line, but can assist customers with replacement of services. Please coordinate with our office if you would like to complete work on your service line.
