Mayor Kathy Sheehan Seeks Applicants for the Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority

Mayor's Home Page Posted on July 25, 2024

ALBANY, NY – Mayor Kathy Sheehan issued a call for applications today seeking individuals interested in being appointed by the Mayor to the newly formed Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority (the Authority).

The College of Saint Rose made the difficult decision to close its doors resulting in the need to find a new use for the College’s Pine Hills campus. While the College may sell all or part of the campus directly to interested purchasers, the State created the Authority and gave it the right to issue bonds, acquire the campus and otherwise manage the disposition of the property. If the Authority exercises its right to purchase the campus and is the successful bidder, it shall be responsible for:

  • Planning, development and disposition of the facilities
  • Operation of the facilities
  • issuing of bonds and collecting fees and other income

The City of Albany is seeking applicants to fill one position on the Authority Board.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Cannot be employed by the City of Albany, nor Albany County
  • Must be an Albany County resident

Preferred:

  • Resident of the Pine Hills neighborhood
  • Resident of the City of Albany
  • Experience in economic development, commercial real estate, or planning and zoning strongly preferred

Applications can be found here: https://www.albanyny.gov/DocumentCenter/View/11136/Albany-County-Pine-Hills-Land-Authority

Applicants are requested to submit a letter of intent describing their qualifications and include a current resume to Mayor Kathy Sheehan via email to mayor@albanyny.gov with the subject line “Albany County Pine Hills Land Bank Authority” or via mail to City Hall, 24 Eagle Street, Mayor’s Office, Room 103, Albany, NY 12207.

Deadline for Applications: Friday, August 23, 2024. Please note that there is no compensation for serving as a member of the Authority.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “The closing of Saint Rose was devastating for the staff, students, and neighborhood of Pine Hills. This campus acted as the centerpiece for the neighborhood and brought people from all over to study and live in our great City. It is important for the Authority to have the option to acquire the campus and ensure we continue to have a vibrant and active core in the center of our Capital City.”
