Mayor Sheehan and the Department of General Services are investing approximately $300,000 in upgrades that include: Replacing the tennis court with a pickle ball court, installing new fencing, a new gate sign and new tee signs, resurfacing the back parking lot, painting and staining the buildings on the property, removing the 1st tee house and replacing it with a pavilion, removing and replanting trees and installing GPS in golf carts to assist with course navigation. Some of these projects have already been completed and there are more upgrades planned for 2023.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “Capital Hills is ready for the 2022 golfing season! Commissioner Panunzio, Course Superintendent, Matt Maynard and DGS crews have been working hard to get the course in great condition and install upgrades like a new pickle ball court. I encourage golfers to get out and take advantage of this beautiful course. I also want to remind walkers and runners that the course is still open for use before play begins each day.”

DGS Commissioner Sergio Panunzio said, “We’re excited to kick off the 2022 golf season here at the Capital Hills at Albany Golf Course. This year’s upgrades will allow Capital Hills at Albany to continue as the premiere golf course in the Capital District with its rich history, beautiful scenery and impeccable maintained course”

8th Ward Common Councilmember and General Services, Health and Environment Committee Member Jack Flynn said, “Capital Hills is the pride of the Eighth Ward and I’m thrilled that the Mayor and the Common Council were able to work together to provide the funding to invest in course and amenities this season. I look forward to seeing these upgrades completed and the facility offering even more outdoor activities for patrons.”

Please note that the course will be open to walkers and runners before golf is being played. Walkers must be off the course by the time play begins, i.e. before 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, and before 7 a.m. on weekends and holidays.
