Parking Permit - Persons with Disabilities

Disability tags and metered parking waivers are now available at Albany City Hall. Must be a City of Albany resident to qualify.

All requests for disability placards and metered parking waivers are handled by the Parking Violations Bureau, City Hall Room 203. The hours for handicap permit application are:

Monday-Wednesday: 8:30AM-12:30PM

Friday: 8:30AM-12:30PM & 1:30PM-5:00PM

To receive a handicapped permit or hang tag, first you must live in the City of Albany and have proof of residency with a photo ID. A driver's license with an updated address is usually the easiest way. If the address on the application does not match the address on the photo ID, a bill/lease showing your name and address will suffice. If you do not have proof of residency, call or email ahead. IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE CITY OF ALBANY, GO TO YOUR LOCAL TOWN HALL.

Next you must have the form below completed by your physician. This must be brought to City Hall for review and to pick up the permit. If you are unable to get inside the building, you may arrange a time to meet outside the building via e-mail or phone.

Physician paperwork: NYS Department of Motor Vehicle Application for Parking Permit or License Plates for Persons with Severe Disabilities.

You must have your physician complete and sign the paperwork.

Once applications are received and reviewed, placards must be picked up at the Parking Violations Bureau in Room 203 at City Hall by the applicant or a person with a valid picture ID. A representative may pick up the permit for someone else, but they must also provide identification to us as well.

HANDICAPPED PERMITS/TAGS ARE NOT MAILED, THEY MUST BE PICKED UP.
