ALBANY, NY – Mayor Kathy Sheehan has announced construction of the new Lincoln Park Pool will begin on Monday, April 22, and that a groundbreaking ceremony will be held in May.
There will be a significant amount of exciting activity taking place at the Lincoln Park Pool in the coming weeks as contractors mobilize and begin construction. Beginning Monday, April 22 through May, the City’s General Contractor for the construction of the pool, Jersen Construction, will install more than 250 micropiles in and around the footprint of the pool and around the bathhouse. Jersen Construction was selected to be the project’s general contractor through a competitive bid process as required by New York State law.
Micropiles – long metal tubes to be filled with concrete – will provide strength and stability and will ensure the new pool will thrive for generations. After the micropiles are installed, the contractor will begin constructing pipes, structures, and terracing that will stabilize the slope and enable a new secondary bathhouse to be constructed into the hill on the western portion of the site. A new filtration building, patio, and shade structures will also be built. O’Connell Electric Company and the DiGesere Group will also be working on-site.
Outdoor construction will take place through late Fall 2024, as the weather allows. Interior work within the existing bathhouse will take place in the winter. New lockers, necessary repairs, and visual enhancements are slated for the historic 1930’s-era bathhouse. Finally, a new water line will be constructed to connect the Pool to the Park Ave. water line.
The City’s goal continues to be opening the new Lincoln Park Pool on July 4, 2025.
The new Lincoln Park Pool will include:
- Zero-Entry Pool (10,000 sq. ft.) with In-Water Spray Features
- 10-Lane ½ Size Olympic Lap Pool (5,620 sq. ft.)
- Splash Pad (6,000 sq. ft.)
- Water Slide
- Restrooms and Shade Pavilions
- Picnic patio
No more than 5 trees are slated for removal as part of the building of the new Lincoln Park Pool. The City of Albany has committed to replacing every tree with the same species that is removed as part of this project. A playground will be constructed in the vicinity of the new Lincoln Park Pool as part of Phase II.
