Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan Provides Cooling Center Update During Forecasted High Heat Indexes

ALBANY, NY – Due to forecasted high heat indexes, Albany County has opened a cooling center at the MVP Arena, 51 South Pearl Street in Albany, today, Wednesday, June 19 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In observance of today's Juneteenth holiday, all Albany Public Library branches are closed and Mayor Sheehan urges residents in need of reprieve from the heat to visit the MVP Arena.

Due to forecasted high heat indexes, Mayor Kathy Sheehan is urging residents to take precautions to avoid the heat and to be vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “I would like to thank County Executive Daniel McCoy for making the MVP Arena available today as a cooling center during this unprecedented heat wave. It is crucial to take steps to keep you and your loved ones out of the heat. Please review and recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and if someone you know is experiencing symptoms, contact 911.”

City of Albany Spray Pads are open today from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Albany Public Libraries will reopen on Thursday for residents' use. 

Spray Pads are located at the following Albany parks: 

  • Black Lives Matter Park
  • Colonie St. Park
  • Hackett Park
  • Lincoln Park
  • North Swan St. Park
  • Rosemont Park
  • Sheridan Park
  • Westland Hills Park
