Meghan Keegan holds a Masters in Social Welfare (2006) from the University at Albany. She spent the first 15 years of her career working with special victims, at risk youth, and individuals with disabilities in the non-profit community based sector and in state government. That included 10 years of government oversight of our behavioral health system and 7 years as a civilian investigator working alongside law enforcement on special victims cases throughout New York State. 

She currently works for organized labor and serves on the Executive Board for United Steel Workers (USW) Local 9265. Meghan has been engaged in various non-profit work including New Leaders Council, the Albany High School Community Engagement Team, United Way (Women United), and In Our Own Voices (IOOV). 

Meghan has been engaged in advocacy and politics since her youth. She has been a long standing member of the Democratic Committee and served as President, Finance Director, and Community Service Coordinator for the Albany County Young Democrats. She was elected to the Albany Common Council in 2021 representing the 9th Ward in the City of Albany. In her capacity as an elected official, Meghan has passed legislation expanding access to Paid Family Leave, established the Albany Commission on Disabilities, and served as the Prime Sponsor on legislation establishing the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services as well as the Department of Engineering.
