ALBANY, NY - Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins provided an update today regarding the City's preparations amid reports of violent protests planned in capital cities across the country on both Sunday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 20.
The City of Albany continues to work with its federal, state, and local intelligence and law enforcement partners to monitor threats of violence.
At this time, there are no known credible threats to the City of Albany. However, intelligence can change rapidly and the City of Albany urges residents to sign up for Nixle and follow the Albany Police Department on all social media platforms to remain informed of any and all updates.
Given the collective threats to capital cities across the country, the City of Albany is urging all residents and visitors to avoid the area around the NYS Capitol in Downtown Albany on both Sunday and Wednesday.
The City of Albany remains committed to being fully prepared to keep its residents safe, and will continue to implement its multi-agency preparations thanks to the efforts of the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, and City of Albany Department of General Services.
