[ARCHIVED] Public Feedback Sought on the Final Draft of the South End Strategic Plan

ALBANY, NY - The City of Albany has completed the Final Draft of the South End Strategic Plan, and is seeking public feedback through a Survey that is available through Sunday, September 3. The Plan, which is overseen by the City’s Department of Planning & Development, was conducted with extensive input and collaboration with South End community groups, non-profits, businesses, and community members. The Plan covers the history of the South End, as well as recommendations for how to stabilize, energize and grow the South End neighborhood.

The feedback obtained through the survey will help the City of Albany organize and prioritize the short-term implementable goals within the South End Strategic Plan and make minor adjustments to the final draft before being published.

The Strategic Plan is an update to the 2007 Capital South Plan. Since 2014, the City of Albany has invested approximately $70 million in the South End’s parks, sidewalks, streets, and other infrastructure, youth programming, affordable housing, and health services. The South End Strategic Plan builds off the goals and implementation of the 2007 plan, and specific action items for the future include:

1. Physical Planning, such as housing investment, historic preservation, new development, and transportation improvements;

2. Workforce and Business Development creating access to jobs, employment centers, and business development;

3. Quality of Life Improvements such as crime prevention, the development of alternatives to crime, code enforcement, and community amenities;

4. Increasing Community Capacity for Change through the encouragement of community organizing, creating public/private partnerships, and resident/government task forces; and

5. Equity Planning to address systemic racism and injustice.

Hard copies of the Plan and the Survey are available in the community room of Ezra Prentice Homes at 625 S. Pearl Street, the Howe Library at 105 Schuyler Street, and 200 Green Street, where completed surveys can also be dropped off.
