[ARCHIVED] Statement from Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan Regarding Officer-Involved Shooting

Contact: David Galin

ALBANY, NY – Mayor Kathy Sheehan has released the following statement regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred early Monday morning on New Scotland Avenue.

“I have been briefed by Chief Hawkins regarding the officer-involved shooting that took place early this morning.

Unfortunately, as we have been reminded over the last several days, any 911 call can put police officers in a life-or-death situation necessitating the use of force. As the investigation into this incident continues, I echo Chief Hawkins’ commitment to transparency and cooperation with external agencies.

I am grateful for the men and women of the Albany Police Department and my thoughts are with the officers involved in this traumatic encounter. I also join Chief Hawkins in extending my thoughts and prayers to the individual who remains in critical condition and their family.”
