South End Connector Ribbon Cutting & Block Party: Free Food | Free Bikes | Giveaways
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, alongside community members, local officials, and partners, celebrated the completion of Phase Two of the South End Connector Trail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 19th. The project transformed a half-mile section of the City’s first two-way cycle trail into a vibrant linear park with new public amenities.

Join Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, elected officials, and community partners to cut the ribbon on the South End Connector! This community driven project re-imagines the shared-use trail as a linear park and public space with seating, designated spaces for food trucks/vendors, pop-up spaces, an outdoor Fitness Court® and recreational amenities. Join the celebration as we unveil this exciting addition to our community!

Location: Underneath Interstate-787 between Church Street and the intersection of Broadway and Quay Street
What to Expect:
- Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Witness the official opening of the South End Connector with remarks from city officials and community leaders.
- Live Music & Entertainment: Enjoy musical delights from DJ Youngwise.
- Food Trucks & Vendors: Savor delicious food from Hattie's and Irie Vybez.
- Family Activities: Participate in fun activities for all ages, including a learn-to-bike class.
- Community Resources: Meet local organizations and learn about community services available to residents.
Schedule of Events:
- 11 AM FREE KIDS LEARN TO RIDE SESSION | This is a completely free group class for kids 5 and up who are ready to ditch their training wheels and ride a two-wheeler for the first time! Most kids will leave this single two-hour session with a basic confidence in how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer. We only have enough space for 20 students, so please register right away!
This event is hosted by Albany Bicycle Coalition, New York Bicycling Coalition and the Albany Housing Authority. Bikes provided by Eden Rose Foundation's Wheel's Up Program. Limited spots| Reservation required) - 12:30 PM Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
