10-YEAR-OLD GIRL RECOVERING AFTER SHE WAS ACCIDENTALLY SHOT BY FATHER ON SECOND AVENUE

ALBANY, NY – A 54-year-old Albany man was arrested last night following a shooting incident that occurred on Second Avenue.

On Saturday, June 13, 2020 at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers responded to a home on the 100 block of Second Avenue for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 10-year-old girl inside the home sustained a gunshot wound   to her back and was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

The victim is currently being treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Through the investigation, it was determined that the victim’s father, Gregorie Smith, 54, of Albany, had illegally possessed a loaded 9mm handgun while inside the home and accidentally discharged the weapon causing his daughter to be shot in the back.

Smith has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Assault 2nd.

He was arraigned this morning in the Albany City Criminal Court.
