ALBANY, NY – A 44-year-old parolee has been charged in connection with a robbery that occurred Saturday evening on New Scotland Avenue.
On Saturday, August 10, 2019 at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers responded to Xtra Mart, located at 247 New Scotland Avenue for reports of a robbery. Upon arrival, an employee told officers that a man had demanded money from the register by passing a note that stated he had a gun. The clerk complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash.
Just hours after the incident, Willie Buxton of Selkirk turned himself in at the Albany Police South Station.
He was charged with one count of Robbery 1st and arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court.
This is not the first time Buxton has committed these types of robberies in the City of Albany.
On February 13, 2011 at approximately 8:50 p.m., he entered a restaurant located at 55 Watervliet Avenue and demanded money while implying he had a gun. The employee complied and Buxton fled with cash.
On February 14, 2011 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Buxton entered the Capital Mobil, located at 655 Central Avenue. While inside, he approached the counter and implied that he had a handgun. He then forcibly stole cash from the register.
Later that day, Buxton turned himself in at the Albany Police Traffic Division which was formerly located at 526 Central Avenue.
He was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st for the 2011 incidents.
