ALBANY, NY— The City of Albany and St. Peter’s Health Partners with support from FidelisCare are proud to recognize compassionate Capital Region moms in the 21st Annual Mother of the Year Contest. The contest celebrates mothers who are committed to their families and communities while serving as positive role models and touching the lives of those around them.

Dozens of mothers were nominated this year, making the judging process difficult.  Every nominee deserves congratulations.  As some of the Capital Region’s most remarkable women, their love and devotion is appreciated by many.

The five finalists are Marylin Kippins of Latham, nominated by her friend Dwight Williams; Kathleen Purello of Schenectady, nominated by her daughter Jackie Coons; Michelle Stark of Glenville, nominated by her daughter Arrianna Stark; Maria Rosa Tabora of Albany, nominated by her daughter Kathy Tabora and Wanda Wilson of Cohoes, nominated by her friend Sabrina Brewington.

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, the Tulip Queen and her Court will greet the five finalists on the Lake House stage in Washington Park on, Sunday May 12th at Tulip Festival. The ceremony will take place at noon where the Mother of the Year will be crowned.

All five finalists will receive a gift basket of prizes as well as flowers from Ambiance Florals and Events.
“St. Peter’s has had a special commitment to caring for women and their families in the Capital Region for nearly 150 years," said Michael Finegan, President of Acute Care, St. Peter’s Health Partners. "St. Peter’s is Tech Valley’s most honored healthcare system – from cancer care, to cardiac care, to women’s and children’s services, to elder care. This year, St. Peter’s Hospital received the 2019 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics and Heart Care for the fifth consecutive year; Cancer Care for the third consecutive year; and Orthopedics, Bariatric Surgery, and Breast Centers for a second consecutive year. It is our honor, our privilege, and our mission to offer women and their families the outstanding care they need at every stage of life.”

The 21st Annual Mother of the Year Contest is presented by St. Peter’s Health Partners; with support from FidelisCare and sponsored by the City of Albany, Upstate and Women@Work magazine, B95 radio and The Times Union.
