Albany’s Fifth Annual IGNITE Volunteer Festival Spurs Community Action

Features 40 Non-Profit Organizations, Food, Art & Live Music

ALBANY, NY – The 5th edition of IGNITE, Albany’s Volunteer Festival, will bring together 40 local nonprofit organizations with hundreds of distinct opportunities to volunteer in our community. The event, which this year grew into the Albany Capital Center, 55 Eagle Street, will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, and aims to bring together some of the best our city has to offer in food, art, and music to make a difference.
Presentation of the IGNITE Volunteer of the Year Awards, honoring individuals for their service to the community, will take place at 6:00 PM.
“IGNITE was born out of the idea that everyone wants to help to make things better in our community,” said Jonathan Hentrich, Director of Serve Albany, the initiator of the event. “Sometimes we are just not sure how to find the right opportunity for us. Ignite has helped to do that by being the catalyst for artists, chefs, musicians, businesses, students, and every day people to find those ways to make a big difference in our city.”
The evening will feature Hon. Kathy Sheehan, Mayor of Albany; Brian Cody; Heather Kovar; Ric Orlando; D. Colin; and Jonathan Hentrich. Throughout the event, those in attendance will enjoy live music from Jordan Hill & Friends, DJ TruMastr, the Albany High School Jazz Band, and Christ’s Church Albany, while sampling free fare from the Albany Pump Station, Honest Weight Food CoOp, Wolf’s Biergarten, the Albany High School Culinary program, AMA Cocina, and Public House 42.
