ALBANY, NY – Albany police officers were able to take another handgun off the streets last night following a traffic stop on Third Avenue.

On Monday, July 16, 2018 at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Third Avenue near Broad Street for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. During the stop, officers discovered that the driver, 25-year-old Kevon Jones of Albany was operating with a suspended driver’s license and that a strong odor of marijuana was also emanating from the vehicle.

Through further investigation, a .40 caliber handgun was located inside of the vehicle along with a magazine with 10 rounds of ammunition.

Jones was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 3rd and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. He was also cited for Failure to Signal and Operating without Headlights.

Pershon Mackey, 22, of Albany, who was the front seat passenger, was also charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

Both men were arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court.
