ALBANY, NY - A 24-year-old Schenectady man was charged with handgun possession this morning following a foot chase on Second Street.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Second Street for reports of a man with a handgun. Upon arrival, officers observed a male matching the description of the suspect that was given by the caller and attempted to stop him as part of the investigation. As officers approached, the suspect fled, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit.

Javar Malloy was subsequently apprehended by the officers and taken into custody. A loaded .357 caliber revolver was also recovered.

Malloy has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd and Resisting Arrest.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court.
