ALBANY, NY – A 25-year-old mother who was using heroin and left her child unsupervised has been charged after the child ingested heroin at their home on Third Street.

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at approximately 11:50 p.m., staff from St. Peter’s Hospital notified police that a woman had entered the emergency room with her 13-month-old daughter after the daughter had ingested heroin while at their home. The 13-month-old was administered Narcan by hospital staff and treated for exposure to the drug. She was later transferred to Albany Medical Center Hospital where she currently admitted and listed in stable condition.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the mother was using heroin in their home and that the mother became unconscious and incapable of caring for the child. During that time, the child located a quantity of heroin and had ingested it. Upon regaining consciousness and becoming aware of what had occurred, the mother took her daughter to the hospital.

The mother, Carli Donovan, was subsequently charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

She was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
