ARRESTS MADE IN MONDAY’S SHOOTING INSIDE MOTEL ROOM

ALBANY, NY - Albany police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday at a motel on Watervliet Avenue Extension.

Maliek Lewis, 26, and Edward Harris, 52, both of Albany, were arrested following an investigation by members of the Albany Police Department.

On Monday, March 26, 2018 at approximately 12:00 a.m., officers responded to Motel 6, located at 100 Watervliet Avenue Extension for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers learned that shots had been fired inside of a room on the second floor and that a male inside that room had sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim, 41, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Upon further investigation, officers learned that both Lewis and Harris had forced their way into the victim’s room while armed with a handgun in an effort to steal the victim’s money. During the course of the robbery, Lewis shot the victim in his leg. .

Both were each charged with one count of Attempted Murder 2nd and one count of Robbery 1st.

Lewis was also charged with Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st.

Both men were arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and have been remanded to the Albany County Jail.
