ALBANY, NY – The City of Albany will begin repairs to the Henry Johnson Boulevard Bridge on Monday, April 23, 2018.  Starting after 9AM Monday, and continuing until 3PM, the City’s contractor will set up a new lane configuration and temporary pedestrian walkway.  Flag persons will be on site to assist traffic and pedestrians through the work zone safely.

After 9AM on Tuesday April 24, 2018, the contractor will set concrete barrier to separate traffic from a temporary pedestrian walkway that will allow pedestrians to continue to walk on the bridge between Central Ave. and Sheridan Ave.  Once the temporary walkway is completed, the contractor will close the existing sidewalk for replacement.  The construction area and pedestrian areas will be separated by a temporary fence.  The vehicle travel lanes on the bridge will be reduced to two 10-foot wide lanes.  These temporary vehicle and pedestrian lanes will remain in place through June 2018.

Delays are expected on April 23 and April 24 on and around the Henry Johnson Boulevard Bridge while the contractor sets up the work zone.

Work will also occur on the underside of the bridge.  The space under the bridge accessible from Elk St. and Sherman St. will be blocked off due to safety concerns.  Intersections under the bridge at Elk St. and at Sherman St. will remain open to allow traffic to continue along the applicable detours.

Any questions regarding this project should be directed to the City Engineer’s office at 518-427-7481.
