Historic Rapp Road

February 01, 2016

The City of Albany invites you to celebrate Black History Month with a presentation on Historic Rapp Road on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Rotunda.

In the 1920's Reverend Louis W. Parson and his wife moved to Albany from Shubuta, Mississippi, among hundreds of thousands of African Americans in the Great Migration who left the South to escape racial and economic oppression. Families settled and built homes on Rapp Road and that community is now designated as a New York State and National Historic District.

Beverly Bardequez and Dr. F. Maxine Fantroy-Ford will be at this event sharing the history of this unique community.
