Parking Violations Bureau

Due to the national health emergency, City Hall, including the Parking Violations Bureau, is temporarily closed to the public.

However, the office is still operating with limited hours to serve our customers.  You may still pay or contest your ticket by mail at the below address, and pay your ticket online here.  Please call 518-434-5006 if you have any questions regarding your parking ticket, leave a message, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. You may also e-mail the Bureau at parkingticketappeal@albanyny.gov if you have any questions about your ticket.

On April 14, 2020, Treasurer Darius Shahinfar authorized the Parking Violations Bureau to remove late fees from any and all delinquent parking violations in the City of Albany upon request. He also authorized and implemented the removal of the $3 online credit card payment fee (fee suspended until 5/31/20). This parking ticket amnesty program is being administered in consultation with and support of both Mayor Sheehan and our Common Council and will continue through May 31, 2020.

To remove late fees, individuals must first request the fee removal by submitted the information in the following form. You can also e-mail parkingticketappeal@albanyny.gov. Tickets information can be found at https://albany.rmcpay.com/ using license plate, ticket or vehicle identification numbers. If you need to call or mail in your request, please see the following information

Phone: (518) 434-5006
Mail: City Hall, Rm. 203 Albany, NY 12207

When contacting the Bureau, be sure to leave your license plate number and/or your name, phone number, e-mail, or ticket number(s).

Send us your parking violation information

Once requested, the fees will be removed, and individuals will be contacted so that they can go online to view the amount owed and either pay by credit card, or mail in a check for the reduced amount. Because City Hall is closed to the public, cash cannot be accepted until further notice.

While the Parking Violations Bureau is operating with limited staffing pursuant to Governor Cuomo and the CDC guidelines, do not visit City Hall to pay or dispute your parking ticket. Please contact the Bureau using the information above.

REMINDER: Until further notice, the City has suspended metered parking and the booting of vehicles with excessive parking ticket delinquencies. Washington and Lincoln Parks are also open to parking without time limits and those parks have suspended timed parking restrictions.

However, the City reminds vehicle owners that ALL OTHER PARKING RULES ARE STILL IN EFFECT, including alternate side parking, emergency no-parking restrictions, handicapped and fire hydrant parking restrictions, double parking, etc.

Overview

The Parking Violations Bureau is authorized to dispose of parking violations only and to collect the fines presently designated by the Court as penalties for parking violations over which the Bureau has jurisdiction. The Parking Violations Bureau notwithstanding any other provision is not authorized to deprive a person from their right to counsel or from exercising the right to appear in Traffic Court.

Any person who shall have been, within the preceding twelve (12) months, guilty of more than six (6) parking violations shall not be permitted to appear in answer to a subsequent violation at the Parking Violations Bureau but must appear in Court at a time specified by the Bureau.

A plea and/or payment of a parking ticket must be made within 20 days. Failure to respond will be deemed a plea of guilty and may result in the issuance of a warrant for your arrest and the imposition of additional fines and penalties.
