1. What is Albany's LIGHT SYEP?: The City of Albany’s Summer Youth Employment Program, (SYEP) has been in existence for over 30 years.
Participants can explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills, and engage in learning
experiences that help develop their social, civic, and leadership skills. During the months of July and August,
youth employees work 20 hours per week.

2. Who is Eligible?: Eligibility is determined by applicant’s age (14-18 years old), who must be a City of Albany resident. Some participants may be eligible and will be funded under TANF grant. (Household income is mandatory)

3. When is the deadline to submit my application?: Enrollment starts February 26th and ends March 31st, 2024.

5. What companies provide internships opportunities for participants: There are several work experience opportunities for our participants. All local organizations will vary.

6. When will SYEP start?: The SYEP 2023 program dates are July 8th -August 9th .

7. What is my pay rate and how many hours will I work?: $14.25 per hour. Total of 20 hours per week.

8. Do I need to sign my time sheet?: YES. You MUST sign your time sheet each week and proof read your hours to be sure you are being paid the correct number of hours.

9. What If I have a new address?: Any address changes must be reported to the SYEP office, 721 Clinton Ave. “ASAP”. Job assignment and your pay card are mailed to the address submitted on your application. Failure to notify the SYEP office of an address change may result in delay in receiving your job assignment and/or pay card. If you make an address change at the post office, you must also do an address change with the SYEP office.

10. What do I do if I have lost my pay card?: You can call customer service at 888.727.4314

11. Can I pick up my paycheck?: No, all pay will be deposited to your pay card or to your direct deposit account if you requested your pay to be direct deposit.

12. What to do if I need to obtain a new working card?: New working cards can be obtained by your school guidance counselor and turned into the SYEP office, 721 Clinton Ave., between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Working cards are required to complete your SYEP application. See check list.
