ALBANY, NY - Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Common Councilmember Jahmel Robinson, and Common Councilmember Joyce Love announced the launch of a community survey to solicit public input for a new West Hill Community Center.

The survey, which is available online, is meant to identify community priorities as the planning process for a new Community Center in West Hill moves forward.

The new center may include a variety of amenities, including a pool, a gymnasium, fitness area, training classrooms, meeting spaces, senior programming, and more.

The survey is available online at Albanyny.gov/WestHillSurvey

Mayor Sheehan and Councilmember Robinson also announced three community events where residents will have the opportunity to take the survey in person and discuss their ideas with city officials. Food and refreshments will be served.

The event times and locations are as follows:

Tuesday, June 8th
5:30-7:00pm
Swinburne Park
Corner of Clinton Ave. & Manning Blvd.

Saturday, June 12th
12:00-1:30pm
Black Lives Matter Park
Corner of Livingston Ave. & Lake Ave.

Friday, June 18th
5:30-7:00pm
Albany Victory Garden
579 Clinton Ave.

The City of Albany hired consultant GreenPlay LLC to conduct a needs assessment and location study for the new community center. Community members reviewed and scored the Request for Proposals and have conducted several focus groups with GreenPlay help to formulate the survey.

This work is the continuation of investments the City of Albany has made in West Hill under Mayor Sheehan’s leadership. The City of Albany has removed the final remaining asphalt sidewalks and investing nearly $500,000 in brand new, concrete sidewalks along with repaved streets. The City of Albany is also in the midst of major renovations of Black Lives Matter Park, and is focusing on the West Hill Neighborhood as part of its 2025 Tree Initiative.
