Mayor

Dear City of Albany Employees,

I want to thank each of you for your continued hard work and dedication to our City during these trying and tumultuous times. I am so proud of our entire workforce.

I imagine you are all concerned and possibly upset by the news release we issued yesterday about the dire financial crisis we are facing. The loss of revenue associated with the COVID-19 pandemic is staggering. I am fighting hard to ensure Congress passes a fiscal aid package for State and Local governments because we need each and every one of you here and working in order to help our City recover and re-open our economy.

You can help in this effort. First, you can call or write our Senators, Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and our Congressman, Paul Tonko, and thank them for supporting fiscal aid to State and Local governments. They are fighting hard for us in Washington.

Second, you can call or write the following elected officials and tell them your story. Tell them about your experience as an essential worker working on the front lines of this pandemic. Tell them about how important your work is to the health and well-being of our city. Tell them that without you, we can’t fully re-open the economy here in Albany. Ask them not to abandon you. Ask them to take action now to replace the revenue we have lost.

I am doing everything in my power to fight for your jobs, but I have to stress that the situation is dire. We are constitutionally required to balance our budget. We will continue to be transparent about our financial position and communicate with you as we move forward.

Thank you again for all that you do for our City.
