Elberon Place Project

Excavator in use to move earth at the Elberon Place ProjectProject type: CSO Reduction, Stormwater Collection, Green Infrastructure

In August 2014 storms in the Capital District dumped 3 inches of rain on the City of Albany. On Elberon Place this resulted in several feet of water flooding residents’ homes and vehicles. After that flooding event Mayor Sheehan and Commissioner Coffey made a pledge to the City to mitigate flooding in this area.

New stormwater catch basins and pipe will be installed to convey rainwater separate from the large diameter combined sewer pipe under Elberon Place. This stormwater will now be conveyed to Washington Park Lake where it can be stored temporarily to mitigate flooding of the streets. A controlled outlet at the south end of the lake will allow the level of the lake to be controlled to accommodate rainwater during a storm.
