Albany High School to host fourth annual

Thanksgiving weekend basketball tournament

Albany High School once again will host the CDPHP Invitational Boys' Basketball Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend, welcoming Bishop Gibbons High School from Schenectady and two teams from New York City.

 

The fourth annual event Nov. 28-29 also will honor eight members of the Albany High Class of 2004 who went on to competitive and academic success in college, as well as the 1984-85 and 1985-86 boys' basketball teams that were among the top teams in New York state. (MORE)

 

Albany High senior Jahseim Dobbs

helps make nano history once again

For the second time in the last two years, Albany High School senior Jahseim Dobbs has helped make nano history.

 

Jahseim participated in the announcement Nov. 17 of a nanotechnology exhibit at Colonie Center, believed to be the first nano exhibit in an American mall. The exhibit is the work of the University at Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. Last year, Jahseim was among the first students in a groundbreaking nanoscience course offered at Albany High in partnership with the NanoCollege. (MORE)

 

Sophomore MacDonald to compete in

state swim meet in two events  

Albany High School sophomore Hanlon MacDonald won the 50-yard freestyle and qualified for the New York State swimming meet in two events at the Section II championships Nov. 8.

 

Hanlon won the 50 free in 24.64 seconds in the Division I finals, taking the sprint by eight-tenths of a second over Shenendehowa freshman Olivia Samson. It was the 10th-fastest 50 free in New York this year. Hanlon also finished fourth in the 100 free with a state-qualifying time of 55.34 seconds.

 

She will compete in the state meet at Erie Community College in Buffalo this weekend. (MORE)

 

Two new members elected

to the Board of Education

Daniel Egan was sworn in Nov. 5 as the newest member of the City School School District of Albany Board of Education, one night after receiving the highest vote total in a city-wide election for two open seats. Rose Brandon, a former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy teacher's aide, received the second-highest number of votes and officially will join the board in January. (MORE)

 

Fall newsletter now available online

The fall 2008 edition of Capital Education, the City School District of Albany's quarterly newsletter, now is available online. The current edition features news and information about a wide variety of people and programs throughout the district, including Albany High School senior Ocasio Willson, who studied at Harvard during the summer, and Albany High graduate Carolee Carmello '79, who is starring on Broadway in Mama Mia! District forms committee to devise

middle school enrollment plan for 2009-10

The City School District of Albany has formed a committee of more than 30 community and district volunteers to develop a middle school enrollment recommendation for the 2009-10 school year, when the district plans to transition to two main schools for students in grades 6-8.

 

The district will enroll students in grades 6-8 in Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School and William S. Hackett Middle School in 2009-10. North Albany Academy also will continue to serve students in prekindergarten through grade 8. (MORE)

available online

The updated Student Code of Conduct for the 2008-09 school year can be found in the Pupil Personnel Services section. Updates to the code include revisions and clarifications to the student dress code.
