Summer Youth Employment Program

2006 marked the 13th year of the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program under Mayor Jerry Jennings’ administration.  The Summer Youth Employment Program is designed to provide any young person, age 14-18, with a summer work experience.  Individuals wishing to participate in the program must reside in the City of Albany.  The program runs 6 weeks, during the months of July and August and employees are able to earn between $5.00/hour and $6.00/hour (depending on their age) and work up to 20 hours a week.  The 2006 summer was one of the biggest programs to date, with over 1,400 young people employed and placed in one of 185 worksites available throughout the community.  The employment partners include city, county, state offices, camp facilities and not for profit agencies.  Look for 2007 information in the spring.
