History

Albany Police Officers have protected and served the citizens of the Historic South End Neighborhoods since 1852. This Station House was constructed in 1899 and was originally the First Precinct. The Albany Police Department was reorganized in 1958 and the First Precinct became Division Two. On June 9, 1998, decentralization resulted in the inauguration of the South Station. Under the management of Chief James W. Tuffey, the Albany Police Department was restructured on December 4, 2006. In order to put more Police Officers on the streets, the North Station was consolidated into the South Station and the South Station became the station house for the eastern half of the city.
