MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

The Great Albany Cleanup Volunteer Effort is an annual coordination of events where the Department of General Services supports volunteer community groups in organizing a cleanup or community beautification event. Traditionally, these events are scheduled throughout the entire spring season. The Department of General Services provides resources to each community group to help enable them to beautify their neighborhood.  The tools provided to our communities include; brooms, rakes, shovels, trash bags, and biodegradable lawn and leaf bags. Also included are donations of mulch and compost for community garden projects.  Additionally, the Department coordinates with the community the disposal of trash collected and the composting of the biodegradable material.

The Department of General Services recognizes the importance of our city’s volunteer groups for the success of these events.  Their efforts not only clean and beautify many areas of the city, but also serve to educate and raise awareness on the benefits of properly caring for our environment.  Together we share a common goal to cleanup Albany.  The Department of General Services thanks all of the volunteers for the time and energy they contribute to this effort.  We are grateful to have the continuing opportunity to show our commitment to such worthwhile events in our communities.

Nicholas J. D'Antonio, Commissioner
