Ward 11

Glen Casey was elected to the Common Council in November 2001 with 90% of the vote. Glen is the President of the Aldermanic Association and represents the Common Council as a Board Member of the Central Avenue Business Improvement District and the Committee of University and Community Relations.
Since taking office Glen has passed legislation:

  • that would require contractors bidding on projects over $250,000 to use Department of Labor Apprenticeship Programs which will improve the skills of upcoming trade workers and make safer workplaces
  • that increased penalties for those carrying illegally loaded weapons
  • to include a financial incentive to those reporting gun related crimes leading to an arrest and conviction
  • increase the wages paid to taxi drivers guaranteeing workers a fairer salary
  • to urge the Public Service Commission to take action to protect upstate New York's telephone service and quality
  • to exempt veteran's disability payments from the calculation of income for purposes of the senior citizens tax exemption.

Glen has worked to improve neighborhoods that some said couldn't be improved. Working with the City and the neighborhood associations, the 11th Ward has had a substantial increase in the number garbage receptacles, trees planted, and street and sidewalk replaced.

Glen's passion for working with the community is deeply rooted in his position at the New York State Assembly, working for Speaker Sheldon Silver as the Analyst for the Labor Committee. In that capacity Glen gets to help the working men and women of New York every day. Previously Glen worked as a Special Assistant to Representative Chuck Schumer and as the Capital District Field Director for Hillary

Clinton's U.S. Senate campaign.
He received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University at Albany and is an adjunct professor at Maria College's Business Department. He is married to Leah Walker Casey, an attorney, and they are the proud parents of their son.
