City of Albany to Hold Exams for First Responder Positions

ALBANY, NY – The City of Albany is holding an exam to be an Albany Firefighter/EMT on Saturday, May 1, 2021, and an exam to be an Albany Police Officer on Saturday May 15, 2021.  Interested candidates can apply for either exam here: https://jobs.albanyny.gov/exams.  

 

These are open, competitive exam with the following qualification requirements:  

  • High School diploma or equivalency diploma 
  • United States citizen  
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License  

Candidates interested in the Firefighter exam who meet the qualifications listed above will also have to obtain a NYS DOH EMT-B Certificate no less than five (5) weeks prior to appointment. Visit joinafd.org for more information including local EMT training and preparation for the Candidate Physical Agility Testing (CPAT).  Firefighter salary starts at $44,608/year. 

 

Candidates interested in the Police Officers exam who meet the qualifications listed above have to be at least 19 years old by the date of the exam. Visit jointheapd.org for more information including Albany Police test prep course materials.  Firefighter salary starts at $46,030/year.

Firefighters and police officers often encounter individuals in a vulnerable state and it’s important that we continue to have trustworthy public servants joining our ranks.”

There will be test preparation sessions available via Zoom.  The dates, times and how to register for these sessions will be announced soon. 

 

A $30 non-refundable filing fee will be charged to sit for this exam. A waiver of application fee will be allowed for income qualified individuals. View a complete list of eligibility criteria.   

 

Once an application is submitted, candidates will be notified of the time and location of the exam by email. Applications must be submitted through jobs.albanyny.gov no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021 for the Firefighters exams, and no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021, for the Police Officer Exam
